Should I Host My Own Blog?

DreamHost (DH) was founded by four Computer Science undergraduates students in 1997. Since then DH has grown and has become one of the famous web hosting providers. According to DreamHost official blog they are now hosting more than 700,000 domains.

There are tons of web servers online, however it is a little tricky when it comes to picking the right one. It depends on your bandwidth requirement, the amount of space needed, uptime and the most important of all; your budget.

Now that you've decided on your domain name, and which hosting service you're going to use, it is time to call HostGator and start the process. In case you're wondering, your website does not reside on your computer, instead it is located at HostGator. The support people at HostGator will walk you through the steps necessary to set up your website. They will take all necessary information, name, address, etc. and then ask for your domain name. They will then ask you what website platform you want to use. Again, we strongly suggest you use WordPress.

HostGator will set everything up for you in thirty minutes or less. If you're concerned about the cost, don't be. A domain name costs roughly $10 a year, and your hosting service is approximately $5 a year. That's it. I would however recommend that you upgrade to a private registration for a small additional fee. And that's it.

These expensive hosts offer a lot of computing firepower, but for the needs of a modest website this would be overkill. Instead, it would make more sense to purchase a shared account at a larger web host. There are plenty of these hosts out there, including DreamHost, JustHost, and Hostgator to name a few.

Personalization and Use of Devices. Blogspot gives you a free hand to create customized designs on your page. Google gadgets are able to customize your layouts. You should have to learn to use the XML Schema. The same is with WordPress, however, the process takes time.

Your webpages are up and now it's time to start adding content to your pages. Search engines love all the new juicy content, so keeping your site stocked with new content will help your rankings and your marketing. If you opted for the blogging type platform for your website then adding content is very simple. If you chose to use HTML, most hosting companies allow free FTP access to upload your new content.
